Course Assignments & Activities
Assignments will be added to the table below as they are introduced in class. Any useful links, handouts, or additional information will be provided in the form of a hyperlink :)
Download & Hand-In Instructions:
To download a document from the class website, simply click on it (download, or, hyperlinks, will appear in blue). Always choose "Save File" and make sure that the box that preserves the document's current formatting is checked off. If the file automatically opens, close it. Now, navigate to your Downloads folder, CUT the document from this folder, and paste it into the appropriate folder within your Student Drive. Title each document you download/hand in as follows: “loginname_assignmenttitle” (ex. hambri_AnticipationGuide). Open the document from your folder, then use the document to complete your assignment. Once you're finished, hand it in by COPYing the document and pasting it (don't just drag and drop - it can cause major issues with your work) into Ms. Hammond's Hand In folder.

3) Journalling Resource: Writer's Notebook Hand In: 1 revised piece per month Due Date: Ongoing |
In our first unit we learned about 3 different types of writing - expository, narrative, and descriptive; we learned about the 6 traits of writing - ideas, voice, word choice, sentence structure, organization and conventions; and we learned how to incorporate sensory and informative details into our writing. Though, in this course, there is only 1 unit designed exclusively around creative writing, we will be practicing our skills as writers year-round. One of the ways you will be doing this is through a writer's notebook, or, journal. You may write about topic. You may use any style. You may choose any form. The only criteria are that you 1) Set goals for your writing and work towards achieving them 2) Write every Tuesday and Thursday 3) You continue a previous piece OR start a new one each day 4) You experiment with different topics/styles/forms 5) You choose one piece to revise and submit for assessment at the end of each month |
2) Weebly Digital Portfolio Program: Weebly Hand In: N/A Due Date: Friday, Sept. 16th |
Instead of creating a paper portfolio for ELA, you will be creating a digital one using a drag-and-drop website builder called Weebly! Ms. Hammond will walk you through how to set up your website and how to use Weebly's basic features. After that, use the "Digital Portfolio Instructions" document to guide you through the rest of the process. Make sure that your portfolio is professional and school appropriate but, at the same time, also make sure that it reflects who you are! |
1) Digital Citizenship Contract Program: Chrome & Word Hand In: Digital Citizenship Organizer Due Date: Friday, Sept. 9th |
In this lesson you will learn all about the 6 Elements of Digital Citizenship, which will help you use the technology in this class effectively, respectably, and safely. First, you will take the Cyber-Saavy Quiz - if you score 100% you also score some free time! If not, you've got some extra studying to do. Next, you and your classmates will come up with some ideas about how to be good digital citizens in this course, then you'll record them on the Digital Citizenship Organizer. Last, each member of the class will read and sign the Digital Citizenship contract we put together! |
